The third of my novels grew from a seed, no, the germ of a seed, planted many years ago.

My fascination with the stories of ordinary people facing extraordinary events was evident in my early love of ghost stories and, much later, Stephen King’s uncanny ability to mix the ordinary and extraordinary in ways that kept me up at night.

Seeing is Believing is a nod to that fascination. Mary Christina Barnes is a young woman who just wants to be like everyone else and live a lovely, quiet life, marry, raise a family and enjoy the safety and security of her Midwestern small city. Her religious mother’s life work is to teach her only daughter her place, but very early it becomes evident to them both that Mary Christina’s place won’t meet her mother’s strict expectations.

She was born with the ability to hear people’s thoughts and feel their emotions. In the face of her mother’s constant assault on her character as evil, she searches for a way to balance her hopes and dreams with her reality. The journey is a dangerous trek from which she will either emerge with balance and light, or lose herself in darkness.

The various trials and tribulations throughout the main character, Mari’s, life were well thought out and portrayed in such a powerful, relatable, and realistic way, helping to create a more thorough and meaningful story overall. The storyline, plot, and characters were well-developed and intriguing and the aspects of romance and spice throughout helped to make the piece a more rounded and entertaining story overall.”
